Senior Spotlight: Renee Ohs

Renee Ohs has been playing for CB Elite for 4 years. She has been a strong leader on and off the court throughout her high school and club career. Renee played varsity volleyball and was on the varsity track and field team at MLHS for 4 years and will graduate with an AA from Big Bend Community College with a GPA of 3.9. Her plans include to attend Calvary Chapel Bible College to study the Bible for 2 years. She will then attend school to become a Radiologist.

Renee has been recognized in both volleyball and track and field. She was most recently a captain of the volleyball team and track and field team her senior year. She was voted MVP of her volleyball team in 9th grade, was voted Most Inspirational Player in 11th grade and was selected for Honorable Mention All Conference in 2017-2018. In 2018 she also received the Coaches Award and was Most Inspirational in track and Field. She has also been very successful in the classroom being on the honor roll 9-12 grade and being the ASB Freshman Senator. On top of her athletic and academic accomplishments, she was the 2019 Distinguished Young Women 1st runner up.

We asked Renee a few questions to get to know her better, here are her answers;

1. Tell us about your volleyball career. “I started playing volleyball in middle school. I was in 7th grade and had no clue what I was doing but fell in love with the sport right away. I’ve played for my school every year since then, which would be 6 years. I started playing club volleyball that same year I started volleyball in middle school and I am so thankful I did. “

 2. What is your most embarrassing moment on the court? "During my last season of high school volleyball, I was trying to give the ball to the other team to serve and I used my foot to lightly kick it over. I ended up kicking a little harder than I meant to and the official gave me a death glare and pulled one of our captains, Yasmin, over. Yasmin then cam up to me and said that the ref told her that volleyballs weren’t to be kicked. After that, my coach told me that she was pretty sure that from the death glare I got I could have gotten a yellow card and started laughing. If you know the type of person I am, then you would know that getting a yellow card would be the worst thing in the world. I was so embarrassed.”

3. What are the top 3 songs on your play list? "Handshakes in the Hamptons by Social House, Budapest by George Ezra and Fabulous from High School Musical.”

4. What is your dream job? "My dream job would be to take care of puppies all day! Just kidding. I would probably say that my dream job would be to become a Radiologist"

5. What is your favorite thing about volleyball? "My favorite thing about volleyball is how much of the game is just problem solving. You don’t have to be the strongest on the team to get all the points, you just have to be smart about where you are placing the ball. Another thing I love about the game is all the girls I get to play with. I enjoy becoming so close with so many amazing girls and becoming like family with them".
